Located on the west coast of India in Pipavav, Gujarat, Swan Defence and Heavy Industries (SDHI) is a premier maritime facility offering comprehensive services in shipbuilding, ship repair and retrofitting, heavy engineering, and offshore fabrication.
Spanning across 600 acres, the shipyard, largest in the country by capacity, has a proven track record, having delivered 18 vessels, including Ice Class Panamax vessels of 74,500 DWT - among the largest built in India.

Commercial Vessels
The shipyard leverages advanced engineering and modular construction techniques to build a diverse range of commercial vessels. With state-of-the-art infrastructure, a spacious facility, and a team of highly skilled professionals, we consistently deliver high-quality results that meet our clients’ expectations.
We utilize cutting-edge tools and technologies to optimize the shipbuilding process, ensuring each vessel meets the highest standards of quality, safety, and performance.
Since June 2012, the shipyard has delivered eighteen vessels - eight Panamax bulk carriers (Ice Class 74,500 DWT), seven Offshore Supply Vessels (OSVs), and three barges. All vessels have successfully completed sea trials in the first attempt, showcasing the shipyard’s inherent capabilities of delivering high quality vessels that meet global standards.
Defence vessels
We are the first private shipyard in India to be licensed and contracted by the Ministry of Defence for the construction of warships. These accomplishments demonstrate the inherent strength of the shipyard’s infrastructure, workforce, and technical capabilities. The shipyard has successfully designed, constructed, and launched two Naval Offshore Patrol Vessels (NOPVs) and one Coast Guard Training Ship (CGTS). All projects were executed using advanced construction techniques and in full compliance with stringent naval quality standards.

Engineering & Offshore Fabrication
SDHI has strategically diversified into heavy engineering and offshore fabrication, leveraging its advanced fabrication and load-out infrastructure. We are the only shipyard in India with a dedicated offshore yard measuring 750m x 265m, featuring a load-out capacity of 10,000 tonnes for offshore structures, cranes, and heavy engineering modules. With a strong focus on the offshore and renewable energy sectors, SDHI provides end-to-end heavy engineering solutions, including fabrication, assembly, and erection of a wide range of specialized products.
Historically, the shipyard has worked on the following projects:
Goliath Crane and Gantry Crane Parts: Fabrication of a 600T Goliath crane and Terex Noell 50T Rail Mounted Gantry Crane parts.
Ship to Shore Cranes: Fabrication, assembly, erection and load-out of Ship to Shore cranes.
Turbine and Generator Components: Production of turbine and generator components.
